“In the Sacred Heart, every treasure of wisdom and knowledge is hidden. In that divine heart beats God’s infinite love for everyone and for each of us as individuals.” – St. John Paul II
Two years ago, the Archdiocese of Milwaukee began its Love One Another campaign. Its mission was to support Catholic ministries throughout southeastern Wisconsin, while also giving 60% of the contributions to help provide for parish needs. We are excited to announce the first project your generous donations will fund: renovations to Sacred Heart.
The interior of Sacred Heart Church has remained largely unchanged since opening in 1978. With our renovations, our goal is to further beautify the space by building upon the vision of the original architects and incorporating modern yet timeless elements. These renovations will bring greater dignity to the liturgical environment, and in turn engage and uplift the faithful in their celebration of the sacred mysteries.
We are currently in the design phase of this project, and are working with the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and Studio Io Design to ensure these renovations result in a beautiful and reverent environment that is welcoming for all our parishioners to worship.
Our planned renovations include, but are not limited to:
- Brightening up the interior by adding warm-toned woodwork, particularly in the sanctuary and in the nave, and utilizing brick and mosaic furnishings, as well as sacred art, to complement the brick edifice.
- Creating an altarpiece that features the central mosaic of the Sacred Heart of Jesus surrounded by the celestial glory of the heavenly liturgy.
- Installing a large, suspended crucifix below the existing skylight and above the altar, creating a layered focus that speaks to the reality of the Paschal Mystery at the altar during Mass, and Christ’s abiding and merciful presence to be adored in the tabernacle in eucharistic devotion outside the celebration of the liturgy.
- Adding the Stations of the Cross to the nave, so that people may reflect on our Lord’s sacrifice throughout the year.
- Replacing the stained glass windows in the back of the nave of the church with those of Saints who have fostered a particular devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
- Moving the Baptismal font to the nave and adding decorative paint along the ceiling to join the Baptismal font to the skylight and further emphasize the relationship between Baptism and the Holy Eucharist.
- Extending and reworking the existing sanctuary to provide greater prominence and due reverence for a full celebration of the liturgy. This includes moving the choir to the nave—a space that is simultaneously part of but set apart from the rest of the assembly—and incorporating additional seating to offset this change.
Renovations will begin in summer 2025, and at this time, we have not decided whether the church will remain partially open during construction, or if we will offer Mass at an alternate location. We will provide more information as it becomes available and work to ensure that this project causes the least disruption to you and your fellow parishioners as possible.

Be part of our Sacred Heart Renovation in a special way
There is no campaign to raise money for this project. Thanks to our parishioners’ generosity, the cost of our project will be covered by our Love One Another funds. However, if you would like to be part of this historic renovation, we have multiple opportunities for you to donate specific items to the church. These include but are not limited to stained-glass windows, our tabernacle, and a new crucifix. Any gifts will allow us to direct as much of our Love One Another funds as possible to projects like renovations at St. Peter and our Endowment Fund. Please contact our Parish Office at (920) 921-0580 for more information. If you would like to donate to this project as a whole, please click the button below to do so.
