Dear Holy Family Catholic Community Parishioner(s),
Earlier this summer, we shared with you that Holy Family Catholic Community would be assisting families who are seeking refuge in the United States as they get settled in their new home. This is work that we are honored to do and we wanted to update you on our progress thus far.
Back in June, we learned that multiple refugee families had arrived in Fond du Lac and needed shelter. As refugees, these families arrived here out of no fault of their own, but because of the dangerous and deadly persecution they endured in their home countries which put them at risk of being victims of serious human rights violations. Some not only faced the risk, but had their rights violated. With few choices to protect their lives and without a government to protect them from danger, they bravely decided to make the difficult journey to the United States and legally seek safety and citizenship here, as refugees have the right to international protection.
In these families, we recognized need, and in our old rectories, a way to help. We’ve utilized the St. Peter Rectory as a temporary shelter for the families, and will soon move them to the former St. Mary’s Rectory, located inside what is now the Holy Family Outreach Center, where they will stay until they can find housing. Holy Family has collaborated with Solutions Center to fund the renovations at the former rectory, as like our other old rectories, it would not be livable long-term without them.
Here, we are offering a place of community to families who have had to leave theirs. It’s a place where we can connect them with all the services they need to make their way in the United States, provided by the helping hands of Fond du Lac including the Solutions Center, St. Vincent de Paul, Fond du Lac Literacy Services, SSM Health at St. Agnes Hospital, and more. The benefits extend to those at the St. Katharine Drexel Shelter as well. As Holy Family welcomes these families, the shelter will have the additional space needed to move those it is better suited to serve off its waiting list and inside its doors.
Through our collective efforts, many more people will receive the care they need in a faster manner than they would’ve otherwise. That is something we all can find joy in, and we offer you our gratitude as your support has been an integral part in making it happen. Through your generosity in our campaign to purchase our new rectory, we now have the ability to reach further into our community and provide more help with our old rectories. Thank you.

A principios de este verano, les compartimos que la Comunidad Católica de Holy Family ayudaría a las familias que buscan refugio en los Estados Unidos mientras se instalan en su nuevo hogar. Este es un trabajo que nos sentimos honrados de hacer y queríamos informarles sobre nuestro progreso hasta el momento.
En junio, supimos que varias familias de refugiados habían llegado a Fond du Lac y necesitaban refugio. Como refugiados, estas familias llegaron aquí sin culpa propia, sino debido a la persecución peligrosa y mortal que sufrieron en sus países de origen, lo que los puso en riesgo de ser víctimas de graves violaciones de derechos humanos. Algunos no solo enfrentaron el riesgo, sino que sus derechos fueron violados. Con pocas opciones para proteger sus vidas y sin un gobierno que los protegiera del peligro, valientemente decidieron hacer el difícil viaje a los Estados Unidos y buscar legalmente seguridad y ciudadanía aquí, ya que los refugiados tienen derecho a la protección internacional.
En estas familias reconocimos la necesidad, y en nuestras antiguas rectorías, una forma de ayudar. Hemos utilizado la rectoría de St. Peter como refugio temporal para las familias, y pronto las mudaremos a la antigua rectoría de St. Mary, ubicada dentro de lo que ahora es el Centro de Alcance de la Sagrada Familia, donde permanecerán hasta que puedan encontrar vivienda. . Holy Family ha colaborado con Solutions Center para financiar las renovaciones en la antigua rectoría, ya que, al igual que nuestras otras antiguas rectorías, no sería habitable a largo plazo sin ellas.
Aquí estamos ofreciendo un lugar de comunidad a las familias que han tenido que dejar el suyo.
