Dear Friends,

As the Lord gathers us again for Mass this Sunday, and as we worship God, so do we also prepare to commemorate not only the Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children on Monday, January 22^nd, but also the Memorial of St. Francis de Sales on Wednesday, January 24^th.

For us in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, when we hear of this Gentleman Saint, perhaps our first thought isn’t of his gentle character, heroic life or priestly ministry in a Europe splintered by the Reformation, but rather of our own Seminary, dedicated to the Lord through his intercession.

Saint Francis de Sales Seminary, founded in 1845 and established on its present campus in 1856, remains for us a cause of thanksgiving, a gift to our local church and a place of God’s Grace.

Not every diocese has a seminary; in fact, most of our American dioceses do not, but the Lord has entrusted to us the care for the formation of priests, who will dedicate their lives to God and our families not only here in Wisconsin but also throughout the Catholic Church in the United States.

Presently, 81 seminarians are enrolled for this current school year, including two of our parish sons, Noah Giebel and Bennett Feudner, as well as our teaching seminarian, Redmond Tuttle.

Our future priests are formed by a dedicated faculty of nine priests, with several Fond du Lac alumni amongst them, including Fr. Luke Strand, Fr. John LoCoco, and Fr. John Paul Mitchell.

Beginning on June 1^st, I too will become one of our Fond du Lac priest alumni serving not only our Milwaukee seminarians at St. Francis de Sales Seminary, but also our local Church in a new way. On that day, I will begin my new assignment as Vocation Director for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

Needless to say, I share this news today with a heavy heart. To be a priest in the parish, here at Holy Family, and at St. Mary’s Springs Academy, has been for me an immense gift. And yet, I have come to believe that this change is of God, both for me, and for our parish community. I am grateful to the Archbishop for his trust, and to so many here for their faithful and generous love for the Lord.

In the months ahead, I look forward to making the most of my remaining time in Fond du Lac.

Every gift begets a responsibility, and together we have been given by God the responsibility to ensure that our Seminary, affectionately known as the Salaesianum, continues to be a place of holiness, life and truth, for us, and for those generations yet to come, through the generosity of our prayer and support, especially by inviting many young men to abandon their nets and follow Him.

A Message from Fr. Ryan

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

I write today to inform you that we have received word from Archbishop Listecki that Fr. Michael will leave us in June to take on his new role as Vocation Director for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Fr. Michael has served our parish with great faith, kindness, and dedication since joining us in June 2022. Over the past 19 months, he has worked to grow the congregations at St. Peter and Presentation, bringing new individuals and families into our pews and walking alongside them on their faith journeys.

As chaplain at St. Mary’s Springs Academy, he has helped students to grow in their love of God, acting as a resource in the classroom and bringing them closer to Christ at Mass in the chapel. We know that the bonds he helped students forge with their faith will leave a lasting impact in their lives.

I know this news is difficult to receive, and that it is frustrating to have another one of our wonderful priests called to a new assignment after just two years with us. It is hard for me as well. Fr. Michael is a great part of our community, and he will be dearly missed here at our parish. As we always do, we continue to trust in the Holy Spirit and know that God will continue to bless our parish. Just as the Holy Spirit has guided this decision, the Holy Spirit will continue to guide us and Fr. Michael in whatever God’s plan is for us.

The Archdiocese of Milwaukee is planning to send another priest to Holy Family this summer and we look forward to welcoming him. We also are very excited for Fr. Michael and all this new opportunity will bring. If the way he has inspired children at St. Mary’s Springs Academy this year is any indication, the Vocations Office will be in great hands.

Please keep Fr. Michael and our parish in your prayers over these next few months as we undergo this transition, and please join me in congratulating Fr. Michael in his new role as the Vocation Director for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

Queridos amigos,

Mientras el Señor nos reúne nuevamente para la Misa este domingo, y mientras adoramos a Dios, también nos preparamos para conmemorar no sólo el Día de Oración por la Protección Legal de los Niños No Nacidos el lunes 22 de enero, sino también la Memoria de San Pedro. Francisco de Sales el miércoles 24 de enero.

Para nosotros en la Arquidiócesis de Milwaukee, cuando oímos hablar de este Caballero Santo, tal vez nuestro primer pensamiento no sea su carácter gentil, su vida heroica o su ministerio sacerdotal en una Europa dividida por la Reforma, sino más bien en nuestro propio Seminario, dedicado al Señor por su intercesión.

El Seminario San Francisco de Sales, fundado en 1845 y establecido en su campus actual en 1856, sigue siendo para nosotros un motivo de acción de gracias, un regalo para nuestra iglesia local y un lugar de la Gracia de Dios.

No todas las diócesis tienen un seminario; de hecho, la mayoría de nuestras diócesis americanas no lo hacen, pero el Señor nos ha confiado el cuidado de la formación de sacerdotes, quienes dedicarán sus vidas a Dios y a nuestras familias no sólo aquí en Wisconsin sino también en toda la Iglesia Católica en los Estados Unidos.

Cada don genera una responsabilidad, y juntos Dios nos ha dado la responsabilidad de asegurar que nuestro Seminario, conocido cariñosamente como Salaesianum, siga siendo un lugar de santidad, vida y verdad, para nosotros y para las generaciones venideras., a través de la generosidad de nuestra oración y apoyo, especialmente invitando a muchos jóvenes a abandonar sus redes y seguirlo.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,

Le escribo hoy para informarle que hemos recibido noticias del arzobispo Listecki de que el P. Michael nos dejará en junio para asumir su nuevo rol como Director de Vocaciones de la Arquidiócesis de Milwaukee. P. Michael ha servido a nuestra parroquia con gran fe, amabilidad y dedicación desde que se unió a nosotros en junio de 2022. Durante los últimos 19 meses, ha trabajado para hacer crecer las congregaciones de St. Peter y Presentación, atrayendo nuevas personas y familias a nuestros bancos y caminando. junto a ellos en sus caminos de fe.

Como capellán de la Academia St. Mary’s Springs, ha ayudado a los estudiantes a crecer en su amor por Dios, actuando como un recurso en el aula y acercándolos a Cristo en la Misa en la capilla. Sabemos que los vínculos que ayudó a forjar a los estudiantes con su fe dejarán un impacto duradero en sus vidas.

Sé que esta noticia es difícil de recibir y que es frustrante tener a otro de nuestros maravillosos sacerdotes llamado a una nueva asignación después de sólo dos años con nosotros. A mí también me cuesta. P. Michael es una gran parte de nuestra comunidad y lo extrañaremos mucho aquí en nuestra parroquia. Como siempre lo hacemos, seguimos confiando en el Espíritu Santo y sabemos que Dios seguirá bendiciendo nuestra parroquia. Así como el Espíritu Santo ha guiado esta decisión, el Espíritu Santo continuará guiándonos a nosotros y al P. Michael en cualquiera que sea el plan de Dios para nosotros.

La Arquidiócesis de Milwaukee planea enviar otro sacerdote a Holy Family este verano y esperamos darle la bienvenida. También estamos muy emocionados por el P. Michael y todo lo que traerá esta nueva oportunidad. Si la forma en que ha inspirado a los niños de la Academia St. Mary’s Springs este año es una indicación, la Oficina de Vocaciones estará en buenas manos.
